Cory’s Story

I am a queer, Chicanx musician diagnosed with bipolar disorder in high school. I began sharing my mental health journey at 24 and have since become a strong advocate for mental wellness. Through my music, I aim to bring together a community of artists and advocates dedicated to breaking down barriers and destigmatizing mental illness.

I play cello, guitar, and bass, blending acoustic alternative, Latin rhythms, jazz modes, poetic verse, and hip-hop styles. I started playing cello at nine and later learned guitar and bass through YouTube and my dad, who has played guitar since I was little. I studied musical arts at the California Institute of the Arts and cello performance at Cornish College of the Arts. I've had the privilege of performing and collaborating with several bands and recording artists. With over a decade of teaching experience, I founded Cory’s Creative Strings in 2023 to offer an alternative way for people to learn cello. I developed the course "Beginning Your Creative Cello Journey" and plan to create more courses to help others on their musical paths.
